About Lisa Davies

LISA DAVIES, founder of Caravela Music Ltd and Lisa Davies Promotions, has worked on the front line in the music industry for over 30 years and 28 of those as a Radio and TV promotions/PR.

“Music is in my blood. My grandfather sang and regularly performed in musical theatre shows in London’s West End. He later became a song plugger, working for the music publishing houses of Tin Pan Alley in the late 1920’s/early 1930’s. My father was a professional jazz drummer until WW2 unfortunately changed his career path. I attended drama school and have enjoyed singing and playing guitar on a semi-pro level since I was 11 and continue to keep my hand in. I’ve lived and breathed the music business since I left school, aged 16, and have been a ‘front line’ TV and Radio plugger/PR since the age of 18. This job was made for me and I enjoy every minute of it!”

After taking a short break to start her family in the late 1980s, Lisa returned to Sony (as CBS had by then become) as a freelance PR, working across most of the company’s labels, promoting their major pop, rock and classical CD releases and videos/DVDs, including many by her previous Epic artists.

In early 1990, due to a high demand of her promotions services, Lisa set up her own company, Lisa Davies Promotions. She rapidly found herself being hired by all the majors and many indie labels too, working on their priority releases across numerous genres.

In 1999, following high recommendation from The Shadows’ management, Lisa had the opportunity to work with Sir Cliff Richard. Her first project with him was ‘The Millennium Prayer’. The campaign was a massive success in the UK. The release went to No. 1, sold 1.4 million copies and became the biggest selling single by a British artist that year.  Lisa has since forged a long standing and close working relationship with Sir Cliff and he remains one of her most cherished and major clients.

Lisa is also extremely privileged to continue working with her other long standing global star clients, including Chris de Burgh (since 1998) and Mark Knopfler (since his global Top 3 hit album ‘Sailing to Philadelphia in 2000).

In the early 2000’s, Lisa was one of the first PRs to promote a string of million selling cross-over classical artists in the UK, including Russell Watson and Hayley Westenra, then a few years later, world famous opera stars, Bryn Terfel and Alfie Boe, renowned ‘cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber and violinist, Andre Rieu. She continues her work in this field and has had much recent success with Blake, Libera and Wynne Evans (Go Compare tenor).

In contrast to the above, Lisa’s general great appreciation and eclectic taste in music means she is just as at home promoting projects by rock legends such as, David Coverdale (Whitesnake), Tony Lommi and Ozzie Osbourne (Black Sabbath), also Motorhead, Marillion and Ritchie Blackmore (Blackmore’s Night).

In her role as Promotions Manager in the 1980s for the then CBS label, Epic, Lisa masterminded and executed hugely successful promotions campaigns for artists such as Michael Jackson (ie. ‘Thriller’ &’ Bad’ albums), The Jacksons, Abba, Wham!, George Michael, Sade, Men At Work, plus 23 consecutive Top 10 hits by Shakin’ Stevens, and countless other No. 1s. Prior to that, Lisa was Promotions Manager at Magnet Records, where she promoted artists such as Chris Rea, The Darts, Alvin Stardust, Matchbox and Bad Manners.

Another high point of  her career so far was having the opportunity to work with  the legendary Robin Gibb on several single and album releases.

Lisa is an accomplished musician and regularly performs with her busy and successful covers band, Atlantis.

Lisa Davies Promotions continues to work across the board and the company's artist roster remains diverse by choice. The current client list includes celebrity and well established artists/personalities, namely Cliff Richard, Chris de Burgh, Hank Marvin, plus 70 million selling author Frederick Forsyth. Additionally LDP also handles very well established acts such as T'Pau, Bruce Foxton (from The Jam), Dean Friedman, Beverley Craven, Mari Wilson, Vonda Shepard, Leo Sayer, Stella Parton (her joint project with her sister Dolly), Mike Peter of The Alarm, guitar icon Albert Lee and Peter Howarth, Lead singer of The Hollies (solo touring).

Lisa personally manages and promotes the London singer/songwriter, Michael Armstrong.

The company also represents No. 1 classical artists Rebecca Newman, Jonathan Antoine, Libera, Nicholas McCarthy, Melissa Alder, Blake, and Joanna Forest.

‘Lisa Davies Promotions’ is additionally proud to be working with newly launched classical music label TADLOW MUSIC and their artist, the young coloratura soprano Christina Johnston.
